Description: Abstract: The objective of this research was to analyze the psychosocial effects of the use of the social net-work Facebook, on the social skills of a group of university students. The research had a quantita-tive approach and was carried out through a non-experimental, transversal design, which worked with natural groups, and measured the random effect of the applications of this social network. The results of the research yielded that 87,7% of the participants used Facebook. Instagram was the second most preferred social network, with 72,3% of the respondents. Snapchat was the third social network with a 67,7% of participants use. The results at a costarican university showed that 47.7% of the student population overused Facebook for more than three hours daily. This evidenc-es a negative impact of the student social skills, many of them believe that skills such as listening, giving opinions, and establishing new relationships are influenced by the use of this social network.
